Current Year Shortcode
Type [year] anywhere in WordPress and it shows the current year — footers that never go out of date.
What it does 01
Place [year] anywhere in WordPress and it outputs the current year. That's the whole plugin — three lines of code: add_shortcode( 'year', function() { return date( 'Y' ); } );
- One shortcode:
[year]. - Perfect for copyright lines like
© [year] Your Company. - Tiny — a 663-byte download with no settings.
Setup 02 · about 1 minute

.zipyou downloaded and click Install Now. - Activate it from the same screen (or later from Plugins). No settings page to configure.
- Add the shortcode. Type
[year]in a page, post, widget or footer — anywhere shortcodes work.
FAQ 03
What does it output?
The current four-digit year, e.g. 2026.
Do I have to update anything in January?
No — it always prints the current year, so your footer stays right on its own.
Is it really free?
Yes — GPL-2.0, free forever, no upsells inside the plugin.
